What Idols are You Worshiping?

We know that there are many false religions and cults in the world. Worshiping anyone or anything other than God is idolatry. Today we see so many people who worship false gods, whether it is a celebrity or a sports team, or anything that takes the place of God in your life.

For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, 2 Timothy 4:3

Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared, 1 Timothy 4:1-2

Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Romans 1:22-23

Today I want to speak about celebrity worship. Many people are so in love with celebrities that they will follow along and blindly do whatever the celebrity does. Look at Miley Cyrus, she was a Disney girl who was looked up to by an entire generation of little girls who loved Hannah Montana, her character on the show. At first she seemed like a wholesome young girl who made a good role model for young girls to look up to. Parents did not worry about their little girls trying to be like Miley. Then Miley got older and you started seeing her posting pictures of herself wearing panties and very little else. Then there was a huge change in Miley, she threw off the good girl image that she had while she was Hannah Montana and became a “bad girl”. As anyone that has seen the 2013 MTV video music awards where Miley twerked against Robin Thicke while she was wearing barely anything, she is no longer the good role model that she was in her youth. In an interview with W Magazine she claimed that she loved “smoking weed” and loved being stoned. Now do you think that once she changed from her innocent Disney girl to the “bad girl” that her fans left her? The unfortunate answer is no. Her many fans still support her and follow in her footsteps, they want to be just like her. So we see that Miley has corrupted an entire generation of little girls that have loved her since they were young. This process is not just limited to Miley, it happens to all the good little Disney kids. They all start out young and innocent and parents allow their children to watch them because they are good role models, then when they get older they change and all the children that have followed them since their youth now follow them into their “bad boy/bad girl” lives.

Musicians have always been a popular choice for worship. All you need to do is look at any teenagers wall to see all the band posters and pictures and articles about their favorite bands and musicians. I remember having my walls covered with pictures that I tore out of the teen magazines when I was young. The problem comes when you step over the line from liking a band or musician to worshiping them. It does not help when the band/musician asks for and expects the worship. Look at Kanye West and Jay-Z, they have stepped over the line of entertainer and think that they are gods. Kanye admits that he sold his soul to the devil in one of his songs, and insists on being called Yeezus. He is elevating himself to the level of Jesus and thinks that he is worthy of being worshiped. Jay-Z has done the same, he calls himself Jay-hova, he also thinks that he is a god and deserves to be worshiped. These men, and they are just men no matter what they think, are satanic tools who think they are gods. One day they will stand before God and fall down on their knees and worship the one and only GOD.

¹⁰ You, then, why do you judge your brother or sister^[a]? Or why do you treat them with contempt? For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. ¹¹ It is written:

“‘As surely as I live,’ says the Lord,
‘every knee will bow before me;
    every tongue will acknowledge God.’”  Romans 14:10-11

Now this last instance that I will bring up is the creepiest to me. A group of people in Georgia have founded a church based on worshiping Beyonce, it is called the Church of Bey and they even have a “Beyble”.  They think that she is a goddess that walks among us that was sent to spread love, peace and joy. They do not think that she is the Creator, but that she sits among the throne of Gods. They have received many donations and are trying to build a Temple to honor Beyonce and want her to come speak to their congregation.  Beyonce has not made any comments about this but other small congregations have started cropping up in other states, Canada and the UK.  They even have a little flyer that asks if you have accepted Beyonce as your lord and savior! This is a throwback to mother goddess worship from the past, and similar to the building of temples for different gods and goddesses in Ancient Greece and Rome.  This is a flesh and blood woman, why would any person think that she is worthy to be worshiped. This is what our society has come down to, open idol worship.

I am praying for this country and for those that have been deceived by these false idols.
